Aloha!
Mahalo, thank you,
for visiting our website, and my best wishes to
you. It is our hope that you will use our website
to learn more about Queen Lili‘uokalani and the
work of the Children's Center.
Established by Queen
Lili‘uokalani's Deed of Trust in 1911, the
Children's Center is dedicated to providing
support and services to orphan and destitute
children, with preference given to those of
Hawaiian ancestry. Our motto, "Healthy Children,
Strong Families, Caring Communities," reflects our
vision for orphaned and destitute Hawaiian
children. We provide support to our beneficiaries
in three ways: 1) Individual and Family Service,
2) Group Service, and 3) Community Development
Service.
Individual and Family
Service provides support for children who have
suffered a significant loss or lack a caring,
healthy environment. Examples of this service
include grief counseling to cope with the death of
a parent, casework to find shelter for the
homeless, and working with `ohana to provide secure safe,
stable, nurturing homes for children exposed to
high-risk environments.
Group Service
provides assistance to children or those
influential in their lives (such as parents,
grandparents) to support and educate them in areas
of similar interest or concern. Groups are formed
around a variety of topics that benefit children
including: parenting, leadership development,
Hawaiian cultural values and practices, and
academic achievement.
Community Development
Service uses longer term approaches to build the
social capacity of those people residing within a
geographical area. Those residents can then
strengthen the systems of care available to their
orphaned and destitute children. Some approaches
include increasing economic opportunities and
modifying existing service systems to better fit
our beneficiaries' needs.
I hope you enjoy your
visit to our website. Please contact us if you are
interested in learning more about our work.
